AndroSal®690– now with extended mechanical characteristics

22.01.2020 | Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH

Demand from our customers in the trailer, tipper and crane industries for cold-formable steels with maximum strength and pronounced homogenous stress characteristics led to the development of the AndroSal® product group. AndroSal®690 combines outstanding processing properties with a particularly sophisticated range of dimensions (max. 12 mm thickness, in widths up to 2,000 mm).

The name AndroSal® derives from the Latin “handroanthus impetiginosus”, the scientific name for the Lapacho tree which is native to South America and whose wood is among the very hardest varieties.

After optimizing internal process conditions, Salzgitter Flachstahl now offers AndroSal®690 with a broader range of mechanical characteristics. For example, we can now undertake to provide notch impact strengths of min. 27 J at -40°C and min. 40 J at -20°C, thereby broadening the scope for applications at critical temperatures.

We have also succeeded in optimizing forming characteristics, with the result that AndroSal®690 can now be warranted to meet defined forming radii. This is of particular advantage for sophisticated bending processes.

Notch impact energy

  • min. 40 J at -20°C (NEW)
  • min. 27 J at -40°C (NEW)

Bending radius

  • 180° <10 mm min. 1.0 x sheet thickness (NEW)
  • ≥10 mm min. 1.5 x sheet thickness (NEW)

Thanks to its chemical composition, the material exhibits good weldability. At the same time, AndroSal®690 is also suitable for galvanizing (Class B).
In addition, AndroSal® can also be combined with the seca®xtra product characteristic. The distinguishing feature of seca®xtra lies in minimal deviations in flatness in cut-to-size components.
