New coil binding line to the highest safety standard

A new coil binding line (CBL2) has been installed in Salzgitter Flachstahl's hot-rolling mill. Salzgitter Flachstahl entrusted the delivery to BWG Bergwerk- und Walzwerk-Maschinenbau GmbH, an experienced equipment supplier based in Duisburg. CBL2 is expected to be available for production from July onward. It will process and sample around 660,000 tons of hot strip a year and package it ready for shipment.

In contrast to the existing line installed in 1975, CBL2 is expected to satisfy all of today’s customer requirements, above all concerning the processing and securing of high-strength coils. For instance, a new type of steel strip is used that can absorb greater tensile forces through its larger cross-section. CBL2’s two expanding mandrels and several pressure rollers ensure that high-strength coils in thick diameters, such as from tube grades, do not buckle. The span of the shears is also greater. The entire product and diameter range of the hot strip mill can therefore be sampled in the future.

Salzgitter Flachstahl’s investment in a new coil binding line significantly enhances occupational safety and process reliability in the area of coilers and coil logistics.
